ARTIST NOMINATED BY Roberta Tenconi
1977, Governador Valadares
Paulo Nazareth (1977, Governador Valadares) is a Brazilian artist who works in a favela near Belo Horizonte, engaging his art with the complicated past and present of his native Brazil. His subjects are often related to race, ideology and the unequal distribution of development and are consistently underpinned by a categorical vision of ethical life itself. In his art practice, that is both interdisciplinary and participatory, he embodies the idea of the artist as a sort of connector, a performative decoder or a kind of philosopher.
